I am me
Today, I worked outside for hours. Forty pounds ago that just wasn't happening! I did another curious thing today. For the first time I cooked nsima for my husband. Nsima is a Malawian staple and Malawians in America cherish it dearly. I was too afraid to attempt it before, knowing the degree of difficulty. I have been notorious in my family for being an atrocious cook. I testified in church one Sunday morning that my microwave had broken and for me that was as wrong as a cat with no hair. It was such a horrible fate, that two college girls I worked with surprised me with a new one when they went back home after summer break. Praise God! Hallelujah! He is good! All the time! All the time! He is good!
The nsima was delicious. The Malawian roast beef recipe I have tried a hundred times and failed turned out miraculously perfect, too. The joy on my husband's face made my heart swell ten times its size. You see, recently I've had to stop listening to the identity I accepted for far too long. I can't lie, family members have protested and loved ones have doubted. But accomplishing what I used to think was impossible is enough reward for me!
There have been times when I found myself thinking, "I can't do that, I'm a fat person!" I realized only recently the sad reality of that statement. I had a Pastor once who told us these wise words, "You will act out the identity you think is yours."
I choose a new identity. I choose to be myself, the real me. The me that is not afraid to be amazing.
God Bless You and I love you!
Acts 5:19-21 (New International Version)
19But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out.
20"Go, stand in the temple courts," he said, "and tell the people the full message of this new life."
21At daybreak they entered the temple courts, as they had been told, and began to teach the people.
